Barely Above Water

Thank goodness—Friday! We made it through another week!

I am beyond excited right now for a few reasons:

  1. It’s a long weekend! Thank you Memorial Day. This is my first holiday off since New Year’s Day and it’s always such a long stretch to go from January to May with nothing. I need this long weekend like nobody’s business.
  2. Sarah gets into town tonight! I am 99% sure we will celebrate with sushi, wine, froyo, and a 6th grade style sleepover complete with chick flicks, magazines, and nail polish.
  3. My Tough Mudder is next weekend. Holy crap. I’m scared.

Anyway, onto blog business. Friday is always a toss-up around here, and today I thought it would be fun to participate in the Versatile Blogger Award that Beth at Mangoes and Miles nominated me for! I’ve just started following Beth recently in the past month or so, and I’ve fallen pretty hard and fast for this girl! She has a great writing voice and is completely genuine which is something I always appreciate in a blogger. If you haven’t checked her out yet, what are you waiting for?

So I’ve been nominated for this award once before (if you’re interested, that post is here) but since that was nearly 4 months ago now, I figured why not do it again? I can always come up with random things to share with you guys. Pretty much the only rule is to share 7 things about myself, and then nominate other bloggers to do the award too!

Here’s my randomness:

1. The only makeup products I ever buy are foundation (literally once every couple years), mascara, and eyeliner. Anything else I use are free samples I’ve collected throughout the years.

2. When I was a little girl I had two favorite stuffed animals. One was a panda bear, and one was a polar bear. Their names were Panda Bear and Polar Bear. Creativity has never been my strong suit.

3. Up until around this time last year, I had never gone faster than 6.0 on the treadmill before. Not the case anymore!

4. I’m known in my office as the only person who will reliably have a clean car at all times. I never keep anything in it. What goes in must come out at the end of the day.

5. For readers who have been with me for awhile, you know I have some OCD tendencies. Add to the list this annoying habit: I constantly play with my hair when I wear it down. And I mean constantly. I move it from side to side, run my fingers through it, braid it. I just can’t leave it alone. It’s really a terrible habit and definitely linked to some OCD/control issues.

6. I mentioned yesterday that I’m a self-proclaimed woods kid. Let me elaborate. When I was little, I played outside every single day in the woods, working on forts and climbing trees like a pro. I would cry when my mom made me go inside for dinner. I’m pretty sure I’ll always be a woods kid at heart.

7. During my prime cheerleading years, I could do this. I’m pretty sure I would break my neck if I tried to now.

Random tangent that quite literally just spewed out of me:

It should come as no surprise that I’ve been feeling like a bad blogger lately. No longer being able to blog in the office is really weighing down on me. It takes me forever to respond to comments and emails. I barely have time to read any blogs, and when I do have a little bit of time I end up spreading myself too thin and I can barely pay attention to the post I’m reading because I’m already thinking about what I need to do next.

Just to give you an idea, my current window of blogging time is from 6:30 – 7:30 in the morning, and then from about 8 – 10 at night. That is all of my free time. It’s time that isn’t spent on personal hygiene, commuting, working, working out, and eating. It’s only 3 hours per day to write posts, reply to comments, reply to emails, read other blogs, and comment on other blogs. Maybe some of you think it sounds like plenty of time—but trust me—it’s not.

Especially when my 8 – 10 nighttime window goes out the door because I make plans with friends, family, or Matt. Just one night without blogging and I am completely behind.

Sigh.

I’m not really sure where I was going with that rant. Especially on a Friday for goodness sakes! I guess it’s just something that’s been on my mind that I felt I needed to share with you guys. I’m just barely above water when it comes to time management and this blog lately. I’m doing my best though, connecting with my readers is a major priority of mine!

And with that, I clearly have no idea who has been nominated for this award and who hasn’t (aha! that’s where the rant originated from) I just can’t keep up. So! That is why I am nominating all of you. Because I genuinely love and appreciate every single one of you. Whether it takes me one day or 6 days to respond to a comment or an email, know that it’s not because I don’t care. It’s because I’m still struggling to manage all of this.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone! I’ll talk to you all on Tuesday :)
